With IMO’s agreement to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, the need for industry-wide collaboration is more important than ever. While IMO’s revised strategy provides us with a noble objective, it leaves the route to net-zero open for interpretation. So, the question is, how will we, as an industry, translate this new strategy into concrete action?

At Danelec, they realise that they possess a part of the solution through their ability to collect and provide validated, high-frequency, quality data and a platform to inform stakeholders from ship to shore. However, they also acknowledge that, isolated, their solutions will only take the industry so far on the route to net-zero.

To push the agenda, Danelec invited the industry to join the conversation during Danelec’s “Impact Days” under the headline, Driving Maritime Sustainability Through Digitalisation at the Yacht Club of Greece in Piraeus. With end-users and their needs as the focal point, the agenda revolved around how digitalization can facilitate tangible change – from technical management in the engine room to operations at the bridge and fleet management on shore.

With key notes from the senior management team, Danelec provided the big picture of the industry, and the sustainable impact of digitizing the vessel and bring data to the cloud. Following this, a powerful panel took the stage to bring perspectives from the ship owners, the analytics companies, and the OEMs. Moderated by Adonis Violaris, Managing Director of Cyprus Shipping News, the panel explored how the industry can deliver on the bold objective to reach net-zero by 2050 and how cross-functional collaboration might hold part of the answer.
